Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Introduction
Sherlock Holmes is a famous detective that solves murdered cases. In this series, Holmes and his friends, Dr Watson, and Gypsy must do everything to stop Professor Moriarty’s evil plans.
The element of the story character
The Hero & The Fool (Sherlock Holmes)
Intellectual, restless, observant, egotistical
Holmes thrives on mental challenges and puzzles solving. He prefers to be intellectually stimulated.
Holmes asserts that he is the only worthy detective in the world.
Sherlocks also play the role of the fool as he has his ways of fooling his companion Dr John Watson.
The Shadow (Professor James Moriarty)
The antagonist: ruthless, betrayed and evil
He is the criminal mastermind, who wanted to start a European world war.
The Anima (Madame Simza Heron)
intelligent, brave and friendly
Madame Simza Heron, also known as Sim who assisted Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in their fight against Professor Moriarty.
She is also a fortune teller.
The Narrator (Dr John Watson)
Loyal, admiring, honourable, romantic
Watson admitted his admiration for his companion, Sherlock Holmes.
He is committed to Holmes, he would always follow him into a range of dangerous situations.
He would always worried about Holmes.
The Trickster (Colonel Sebastian Moran)
Evil and selfish
He is one of the best marksmen in the British army, but because of a dishonourable discharge, he became a mercenary in the employ of Professor Moriarty.
He nearly killed Dr Watson twice.
Basic Conflict
Man Vs self
Sherlock has a bad relationship with Moriarty as he killed Irene Addler whom Sherlock was deeply in love with. Moriarty is the arch-nemesis of Sherlock since the beginning of the first film. The death of Irene Addler impacts Holmes by making him go to the extreme to take down Moriarty as a revenge for killing Irene. Sherlock is fighting himself in the movie when he has to make the decision to continue the case even after being threatened.

Opener
Irene Adler
- Irene Adler delivers a package to Dr. Hoffmanstahl, when he opens the package it triggers a hidden bomb that is prevented from detonating by the intervention of Sherlock Holmes. When Adler meets with Professor Moriarty, he poisons her to death because he notices that she is in love with Holmes.
Dr. Watson
- When Dr.Watson arrives at 221B Baker Street, he had a discussion with Holmes to go on an investigation of a series of unrelated murders, terrorist attacks and business acquisitions around the globe that had connected to Moriarty.
221B Baker Street
- Where Holmes and Dr. Watson lived and where they started the investigation.
Rising Action
Gypsy
- Gypsy fortune-teller Simza was saved by Holmes. Holmes had defeats an assassin sent to kill Simza, but she flees before Holmes can interrogate her.
The wedding
- After the wedding of Watson and Mary Morstan, Holmes has to meet Moriarty for the first time. It left Holmes with no choice ongoing to stop Moriarty by himself because Moriarty will kill them if they had to go.
Moriarty
- Moriarty’s men attack Watson and Mary on a train to their honeymoon. Holmes has protected them by following them, by throwing Mary from the train into the river below where she will be rescued by Mycroft.
Climax
- Holmes was captured by Moriarty and being interrogates and tortures. Holmes figures out Moriarty criminal plans. Watson, Simza, and an injured Holmes reunite and escape. After escaping, Holmes meets Moriarty again. They anticipate an impending physical altercation and both realise that Moriarty would win due to Holmes’s injured shoulder.
Falling Action
- Holmes sacrifices himself to kill Moriarty, by jumping down to the Reichenbach Falls. Both of them are presumed dead until Watson and Mary prepare to have their belated honeymoon. When all of a sudden Watson receives a package that contains a breathing device of Mycroft’s that Holmes likes. He realizes that Holmes may be still alive. However, he doesn’t know that he is inside Watson’s office by using one of his urban camouflage suites.
Resolution
Holmes adds a question mark after the words “The End” in Watson’s memoirs on the typewriter.
