Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief



Introduction

Percy Jackson is being accused by the god from stealing Zeus’s master lightning bolt. He then began his mission with his friends by searching for the lightning bolt and stop Zeus from putting a war between all gods. In his mission to attrive the lightning bolt he soon discovered that he is a demigod and he is Poseiden’s son. It was his destiny to stop the war between the gods.


Element of the story character

The Hero (Percy)
- The protagonist: Brave, loyal and devoted
He would risk his life to save his friends, he would choose loyalty over money, rewards and personal gain.

The Shadow (Lukas)
- The antagonist: ruthless, betrayed and evil
He betray Percy by leading Percy to send the lighting bolt to Hades, which Percy did not know he had the lightning bolt given by Lukas shell.

The Fool (Grover)
- Loyalty, timid and friendly
Grover was Percy’s best friend he is a half-goat, half-human he always finds himself in an unwilling situation but he would still be there for Percy whenever he needs him.

The Anima (Annabeth Chase)
- The female counterpart to the protagonist: intelligent, brave and loyal
Annabeth Chase, she is the demigod daughter of Athena. She uses her intelligence to guide Percy to their destination.

The Mentor (Chiron)
- The protagonist mentor: Wise, caring and brave
Chiron, he prepares and guides Percy for his mission in retrieving the lighting bolt.

The Trickster (Hades)
- Evil and selfish
Hades, he wants the lightning bolt by himself and uses it to rules the god.

Basic Conflict
1. Man Vs Destiny
It is said that Percy Jackson would face a lot of difficulties on the way of retrieving the lighting bolt. He would need to face his own destiny by discovering his unique ability of using the water.

2. Man Vs Supernatural
Percy Jackson defended Meduse who try to kill him by making him into a stone. Medusa had the power of making people into stone by just looking them in the eye.

Plot (Structure)
Opener

- Percy Jackson
Percy explains a little bit about himself and some of the issues that he faces. For example, he has dyslexia, and he also describes his loving mother. He also hates his obnoxious step-father, Gabe.
- Grover
Percy also talks about his best friend, Grover who looks a little too old to be in the 6th grade because of his looks. Percy doesn’t know Grover is his protector.

The Field Trip
- Percy is on his way to a greek museum for a field trip. He is just hoping he will not get into any trouble.

Rising Action
- Mrs.Dodds
When Percy and his class are leaving the museum, Mrs.Dodds asks Percy to talk with her in private. When Percy walked into the room, Mrs.Dodds had turned into a winged monster and was attacking Percy. Then, Percy was saved by his teacher Mr.Brunner who turned out to be a centaur, not a crippled man.

Camp Half-Blood
Percy was rushed to Camp Half-Blood by his mother and Grover. Percy had no idea what was going on, but when he was at the gates of camp, a minotaur appeared and attacked, and killed his mother. Percy fought the minotaur and then entered the Camp Half-Blood with Grover.

Medusa
After Percy was sent on a quest by the camp, he was to find Zeus’s lighting bolt. But Luke, a leader of the camp hid the lighting bolt which he stole into Percy’s shield. Percy had an encounter with Medusa and he fought against Medusa with the help of his friends.

Climax
When Percy is back at the camp, Luke pretends to apologize to him, but the intention of Luke is to kill Percy in the forest. Luke tells Percy he is a servant of Kronos, the lord of the titans. Then, he summons a deadly scorpion to attack Percy. But Percy puts up with a fight and eventually kills the Scorpion and goes back to the camp to tell everyone what had happened.

Falling Action
When he finally saw his biological father at olympus but he couldn’t stay long with him as it is forbidden. He soon went back to the camp with Annabeth. He had then finally completed his quest with the help of his friends.

Resolution
Percy gets to spend his summer in the Camp with his friends and continue his training to be prepared for what’s going to happen in the future.

Place (Worldbuilding)

The world
- Olympus
The home of the god’s rules by Zeus.

- Underworld
Rule by Hades, it is an otherworld where souls go after death. The soul of a person will be separated from the corpse and is transported to the entrance of the underworld.
- Camp Half-Blood
Place where half demi-god stays and train themselves.

The species
A demigod is a mortal half-god, half-human that is given birth by the gods. Demigod lives in the human world.

LanguageThey have no special languages in this movie. It uses English.

Technology
A pen that can transform into a sword. Three green pearls, which allow them to escape from the underworld. A pair of Converse All-Star flying shoes.

Theme
Identity
Percy spends most of his time trying to find out who he really is. Percy thinks that he never felt like he fit in with others around him. After he found out that he is a half-blood and a place that fits him in camp half-blood. He finally found a place where he can truly be himself.

Friendship
Friendship is a central theme in the movie, because Percy would never have succeeded in his quest without his friends.

Family
Percy has struggled with the idea of family since birth. He never knew who his biological father, the only parental figure in his life was his mother. When Percy finally gets to meet his real father. He feels happy that his father is proud of him.

Loyalty
Percy shows loyalty not only to his father, but also to his friends, his mentor, and his mother.
Genre
The Lightning Thief is an American fantasy-adventure novel that is based on Greek mythology, the first young adult written by Rick Riordan in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.
