Personal Contribution (Assigned Project Role) and Learning
In this transmedia group work project, we had discussed and separated parts of the work to complete the project. The works parts include a website, video editing, marketing, Instagram post, illustration, video sound effects, tapes, and journal design. There are some parts where we work together to complete the part which is an Instagram post and creating the illustration of the video.
The parts where I contribute are creating video sound effects, tapes, and journal design. I felt that I have done well on the journal design as it is quite fun where I get to design each page on how it’s going to look like. There are still things that I need to consider before I start designing what to put in the journal. For example, the design of the pages has to link to our story on what is Kylie’s ambition and where is the hidden password for the website. The part of the journal that I think is interesting is where I get to put where the hidden password for the website is, it has to merge with the pages so that it won’t be too easily discovered. Each page of the journal represents the mood and behavior of the character when she is writing her journal. While I was creating the journal I thought of myself as the character so that it could convey the message to the audience. It is said that “writing about your deepest struggles can have a positive impact on health and well-being.” (M. Newman, 2016)
Parts, where I think I could do better in, is voice editing and recording for the tapes. First of all, I have to write in the script what each character is going to say in the tapes and there are also things that I need to consider while I am writing. For example, the tone of the voice and the environment where the main character is recording. While I was doing the voice recording, I had some difficulties in matching the voice to our character. In the end, I decided to use text to audio to create the character voice. I have also done some research on ways to make the voice more human and not sound like a robot. If I had the chance I would try to make the voice more human by recording other people's voices and not using software-generated voice-over. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, I am not allowed to do so.
